About Manaii

Manaii's story began with a cherished memory from high school. Back in the day, we had a tradition of counting down to Nowruz, starting from the first of Esfand (Feb 20th). From that day on, one of my friends would write "29 days until Eid" on the board, updating it daily. Similarly, from December 1st, Santa Claus would prepare for his guests with a gift calendar. This reminiscing inspired me to bring the past to life for Mana, so I took matters into my own hands...

Manaii’s story has begun at this point that ...

About 10 years ago, to prove that Amoo Nowruz is just as special as "Tomte" (the Swedish Santa Claus), I created a "Nowruz calendar" for Mana. I filled small colored bags with various Haftsin gifts and items, labeled the days in English, and then attached them to the fridge using magnets! Every day, I would share photos of that day's gift on social media, along with a countdown to Nowruz, for friends and family…

The next year, Mana began learning Persian at school. It looked as a perfect opportunity to make her Persian learning more engaging. I crafted colored paper envelopes and filled the envelopes with chocolate, small gifts and Haft Sin items. Then I labeled them with the date in both Farsi and English. On the 5th of March, to mark Arbor day, I included wheat with her gift, so we could enjoy the experience of growing wheat together. Now, Mana could read the dates in Farsi!

As a graphic and packaging designer, I decided to create a more practical and sustainable Nowruz calendar for Mana the following year. With Mana's help, we crafted 29 colorful origami boxes, decorated them with Iranian motif designs, and mounted them on a large cardboard board. Nowruz has since become a fixture in our home. Gradually, Mana began anticipating the first of March right from Christmas day, proudly showcasing Nowruz to her Swedish friends!

From the following year, Naneh Sarma and her family stepped out of age-old tales to enter our lives to familiarize Mana with more details of Nowruz ceremony! Every day, the Nowruz calendar box presented a mission in Farsi from Naneh Sarma. Now, Mana knew when to clean the house for Nowruz and when to grow Sabze. She became familiar with the tradition of eating Ash on Charshanbe Soori and painting Haftsin eggs with onions. She also learned how to write "Sumaq" and "Senjed"!

In 2021, Naneh Sarma expressed a wish that she and her family wanted to bring joy to more people. She felt our house was too small for them and that they needed their own world! This idea was challenging because no one had ever seen Naneh Sarma and her family up close. After much research and brainstorming, Manaii's Naneh Sarma and the Manaii World were born. Their first product, a Nowruz chocolate calendar featuring a design of her house, was ready by March 2022!

The following year, Manaii World expanded. Now, Naneh Sarma lives in a beautiful house atop the highest mountain in Manaii World. Manaii's Nowruz Chocolate calendar is filled with activities, and Ravi narrates the tales of Naneh Sarma through a digital game for children. Naneh Sarma is happy because she can reach more people and bring joy to many more hearts! The journey continues: Now, Yalda Khatoon has also joined Naneh Sarma, and together we celebrate not only Nowruz, but Yalda as well!
